Why Forward Strategies is starting a newsletter four days before an election

October 28, 2026

Mattie Duppler’s podcast The Tradeoff is now a twice-weekly newsletter, and Forward Strategies has a new home. Here’s why, and why now.

Washington doesn’t wait for you to catch up

Most people don’t have time to follow what Congress is doing. They’re in meetings, at school pickup, on hold with the pediatrician. Meanwhile, decisions about their money keep getting made: spending bills, deadlines, and the rules that decide what a paycheck actually covers.

Mattie Duppler has spent almost 20 years on the other side of that gap. She built Amazon’s public affairs operation, and since then she’s helped companies see policy fights coming early enough to do something about them. That work is the heart of Forward Strategies. It’s also why she started The Tradeoff, a podcast that explains the economic and policy news that ends up in your wallet, with no episode running over 15 minutes.

This week, both get a little bigger.

The Tradeoff, now in your inbox

For a while, Mattie’s Friday recaps have lived on Reels. Starting Friday, October 30, four days before the election, they’re also a newsletter on Substack.

It comes twice a week. Wednesdays bring the week’s episode in a few bullets. Fridays are “What You Missed While You Were Busy,” Mattie’s recap of the week in Washington and what it means for your money. It’s written for people who had a job to do instead of a news feed to watch, and it takes about two minutes to read.

A new home for Forward Strategies

The new site is also the clearest picture yet of what the firm does. Most policy fights are visible months before the hearing. The companies that come out ahead are the ones that saw them coming and had a team ready when they hit. Forward Strategies works with leadership teams to get there before they need to. Work with us

Mattie also speaks about policy risk, the economy and what Washington’s decisions mean for business. Book Mattie
